With Governor Abbott Endorsement, GOP Frontrunner Gary Gates Files for Texas House Primary

Republican Businessman Gary Gates today officially filed to seek the Republican primary nomination for State Representative in Texas House District 28. Gates is already the strong favorite in a Special Election runoff against Democrat Eliz Markowitz. His filing for the Primary will help ensure he is the Republican nominee in the General Election next November as well. Gates HD 28 covers the northern portion of Fort Bend County including Fulshear, Orchard, Simonton, Weston Lakes, and parts of Katy.

In the November 5th Special Election to fill the departing member John Zerwas’ term, Gary Gates was the overwhelming top GOP vote-getter – earning 47% of the Republican vote. Gates kept his Democrat opponent far below expectations even though, in total, the Democrat camp spent over $1 million to beat Republicans. Republicans received an incredible 61% of the vote to the Democrats’ 39%.

Gates is endorsed by Governor Greg Abbott and virtually every local Fort Bend County elected official heading into the Special Election Runoff, which will take place on January 28, 2020.

“I’m very honored to be the Republican choice for this district and to have the backing of Governor Abbott and so many of our local elected officials,” said Gates. “The Democrats spent $1 million to buy this seat and our Fort Bend neighbors clearly and loudly rejected their harmful agenda in favor of pro-free market policies that will keep our schools strong, secure our border, and lower taxes on families.”

Gary Gates’s father was a talented American Air Force pilot who was being transferred to the USA Space Shuttle program when he was tragically murdered, leaving Gates, at just age 18, to support the family. Gates first drove a truck but soon found success in buying, renovating and renting homes. He has since built his business to 500 employees.

“I’ve been blessed in my business, with my family, and in my life,” Gates said. “The success I have should be available to everyone. I’m on a mission to galvanize our Texas freedoms for us, for our children, and for our future generations.”

To keep this seat red, Republicans just have to turnout one more time in the Runoff Special Election on January 28, 2020. Gary and his wife Melissa have lived in the district for over thirty years. They attend Grace Community Bible Church with their children.
